Learning Management System

Students can use the Learning Management System (LMS) of the Faculty of Technology by logging on to the Students’ Information System (SIS) to access the course content and its related information by registering to the system. The students can log on to the LMS using their registration number as the user name and the same password provided to the SIS. In the LMS, the lectures will include all course material with the requirements to be met by the students for each course where the student will have access to the contents. The forum will be open to all registered students to engage in discussions with the lecturer and among the students. All General news and announcements will be posted through the calendar and the site events of the LMS

Sports & Recreation

As students of the University of Colombo, students enrolled in the Faculty of Technology are entitled to all sport and recreation facilities of the University of Colombo main campus.There is a ‘Physical Education Unit’ that has been set up in the main campus to develop and enhance

student skills in sports. This unit is housed within the Student Center in the top floor of the Gymnasium.The Unit has a Director and three Physical Education Advisers. The unit also provides coaching and necessary facilities in many different sports. These include Badminton, Volleyball, Football, Elle, Tennis,Basketball, Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Weight Lifting, Cricket, Rowing, Rugger,Wrestling, Chess and Athletics.

There is a large play ground and a gymnasium at the disposal of the students. While sport and recreation facilities will be developed within the new premises of the Faculty of Technology in Mahenwatte Estateinthe future, until such Student Societies Number of different student societies with various scopes are available in the University of Colombo. If the society is not limited in its scope to a particular Faculty or Department, the membership is open to all students of the University of Colombo. facilities become available the students are encouraged to use the facilities in the Colombo Campus.

Accommodation/Cafeteria

Two hostels, each with a capacity to accommodate 100 students, are already under construction at the Mahenwatte site of Faculty of Technology. Once the buildings are completed, fully furnished accommodation will be available to male and female students on campus.

Library Facilities

Library system of the University of Colombo consists of the Main or the Central Library and faculty libraries. The Central or Main Library a five storied building consists of many books and periodicals covering various disciplines. This is situated between the Faculty of Law Building Complex and the Faculty of Arts Building Complex and the main entrance of the building is facing the Reid Avenue.

Counseling

The student counseling is important for the student welfare and maintenance of student discipline. The student counselors are from academic staff representing all faculties and eight marshals. There is a senior student counselor and number of other student counselors appointed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo. The student counselor’s office is comprised of senior student counselor and the other student counselors. Further, there is another special counselor appointed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo to advice on the welfare and other matters relating to the Buddhist monks. The main task of the student counselor’s office is to counsel students. However, wide variety of other tasks are also undertaken by the student counselor’s office and which include issuing of identity cards, display posters and cut-outs and permits for trips, allocation of permission of lecture halls for extra-curricular activities (get-togethers and meetings and etc.), providing temporary hostel facilities; assisting students facing emergencies; hold special language classes for students, intervene and take necessary action with regard to student conflicts within and outside the University and take steps to prevent ragging.
